Ile d’Oléron is the largest of France’s Atlantic islands.
The principal industries of the island are Oysters and tourism, less chic and more shabby chic than nearby Re the island is about 35km long and 15km wide at its widest point. Much of the island, particularly the east coast, is given over to the Oyster farming industry with numerous inlets and creeks that coupled with the colourful Oyster farming sheds provide many photographic opportunities particularly if like me you have a penchant for the slightly or perhaps even truly shabby.
So first off the little Oyster farming community of La Baudissiere which is just ridiculously photogenic.
