One of my favourite functions on the Lumix G9, that comes as a consequence of having an electronic viewfinder, is the ability to see the results of different crops (picture modes) in camera or indeed filter effects such as monochrome.
In particular I have a penchant for the square format which with some images works really well.
One the best things about shooting with the G9 in raw and using Abode Lightroom as an editor is that if for example the square format is selected in camera the G9 still captures the full m43 image but shows the square crop in Lightroom, thus if at a later date you want to revert to the full image you can do so – this does only work when shooting raw as opposed to jpeg, if you shout jpeg the crop is baked in with the cropped pixels discarded by the camera.
Some square examples from the creeks of Oleron.
