Old Dubai

There is more to Dubai than just glass, steel and concrete.  A glimpse of old Dubai and its people can still be seen along and around the Creek where wooden Dhows still ply their trade around the Gulf and Arabian ports.  The gritty subjects make ideal candidates for some black & white photography where contrast and texture are key.

For these images I chose to use one of my lesser used lenses the Olympus 75mm f/1.8 lens – the beauty of this lens lies in the very fast maximum aperture which coupled with the relatively long focal length (150mm FF equiv) enables you to isolate a subject with a shallow depth of field whilst standing back from it thus making a useful lens for street photography.

All images were taken with the lens wide open at f/1.8.

and just one colour image – from the spice souk.
