The Marina at Night

The Marina makes a good photographic location during the day – but makes a great location at night and probably the best location in Dubai – think lights, reflections and light trails.

Even with the Olympus OM-D EM1 mkII’s fantastic image stabilisation this kind of subject really requires a tripod as to get those dreamy reflections I find that exposures of 5 seconds or more are required. A further benefit of using a tripod is that that high resolution mode can be engaged (so long as there is no movement in the image) which in addition to generating a 50mb+ pixel image also significantly helps with noise reduction giving you a gain of about 2 stops which of course is always a big benefit especially with the relatively small sensor of the m43 cameras.
