We were a little uncertain whether to bother with Yala Block 1 but given that we had plenty of time we thought we would, so at dawn we joined the long queue of jeeps waiting to enter the park, not a promising sign from our perspective but time would tell.

Potentially there is plenty to see in Yala Block 1 but for many there is only really one game in town namely Leopard. So what happens when a Leopard is sighted ? – well there is what can only be described as a mass jeep migration at high speed to the location sighting at which point its luck of the draw if the animal is still there and if your jeep driver can manage to get you into a position to see it, given that there can be over 400 jeeps in the park the later is far from guaranteed. To be honest its not really our kind of thing but that said if you do get a glimpse of a Leopard it is of course an exciting moment.
So did we see Leopard in Block 1 ? – well yes we did, not as well as at Wilpattu but a reasonable sighting none the less.
As always click on the images to see them larger.

We also had partial views of a Sloth Bear, but not photographable, and of course a number of bird species.

Stunning pictures with the 300mm !
