Lying 16km off the South Ayrshire coast the small island of Ailsa Craig makes a unique sight. The island is the result of an igneous intrusion of very hard granite that has resisted erosion around it thus leaving it standing pround as a very distintive plug. The island is famous for its Blue Hone granite from which all the best Curling stones are made.
More Long Exposure
New Brighton offers not only oportunities with the Lighthouse but also a number of groynes that have presumably been built to prevent the areas beaches being washed into the Mersey River.
The groynes make great abstract subjects at half tide.

I finally got around to a little photo expedition that I have been planning for some time. I had seen online some interesting photographs of the lighthouse at New Brighton on the Wirral and thought that I would like to give it a go with my ND filters and resultant long exposures.

Left the daily exercise until late in the day today in the hope of a decent sunset – a little colour but nothing special.

If ever there was a metaphor for the troubled times that we are living through this must surely be it.
Continue reading “After Clouds, Sunshine”A Quiet Summer
The Pandemic drags on and opportunities to get out and about to photograph the wildlife have been few and far between. A brief foray to Suffolk & Norfolk yielded little with many of the popular sites overwhelmed with holiday makers that should have been abroad staycationing instead – so just a couple of images – hopefully autumn and winter will bring a little more activity and perhaps a little more enthusiasm on my part.

I am always on the lookout for somewhre to use my Fishy Fun Samyang 8mm fisheye lens, its fun to use and you never quite know what your are going to get.
Fisheyes like bold structures, foreground details and blue skies so the Marina development in southern Dubai looked like an ideal location to give it a spin.
Lone Tree
Lone tree, blue sky and a few cows = A bucolic English scene.
Lunar Eclipse
50 years ago Armstrong, Aldrin and Collins departed planet Earth for the Moon.
50 years to the day and we are treated to a partial Lunar eclipse.
That Windmill Again
After a long wait for a cloud and dust free evening at last an opportunity presented itself to tackle the La Oliva windmills, or in this case just one windmill, with a starry sky. Unfortunately the milky way didn’t show its face or at least not the galatic core.
The Shard
You know when you have been spending too much on camera gear when a camera retailer invites you to a paid focus group session – and so it was this week that I found myself in London with an hour or so free – just enough time to have a wonder around the London Bridge area a grab a few shots of London’s tallest building The Shard.

It was all looking so promising.
Good sunsets have been a rare thing of late in Fuerteventura – the photographers curse of cloud on the horizon has been an all to frequent phenomenon over recent weeks. Â But this evening looked promising for a decent El Cotillo show, cloud was moving down from the north giving some nice broken cloud over the island but the sky to the west over the Atlantic was clear so it looked good for the sun getting under the island cloud and thus giving that much desired fiery show.
Burgh Island
Burgh Island is a tidal island just off the coast of south-west Devon. Â At high tide the island and its Art Deco hotel can be reached by a sea-tractor at low tide you can walk across the sand causeway. Â The island is visible from many miles along the coast.
Kingsbridge Estuary
Perhaps the most picturesque tidal estuary in the whole of England the Kingsbridge Estuary is a mecca for sailors especially around the waterside town of Salcombe. Chichi Salcombe has perhaps some of the most expensive property in England outside of London.
Landscape or Skyscape
The rule of thirds, which is not really a rule, would have you put the horizon on a third. Â But which third ?
Royan and The Coast of Beauty
A little mish mash today – all taken on a cycle ride along the “cote de beaute” between St-Palais-sur-Mer and Royan.
Charrelets – Belle Epoque Architecture – and that Catherdral again.
La Grande Roue
Big and Round – and on the seafront at Ronce-les-Bains on a sunny and busy Sunday afternoon. Only one approach to such a subject – Fisheye of course.
